Galician: Salmonete de roca or de pedra. Barbo.
Spanish: Salmonete.
Description: Two characteristics define this species: its red colour, that varies according to time of year, and its barbs that it uses to detect and dig up the molluscs and crustaceans that make up its diet. The main differences between this fish and the rock mullet are that the rock mullet has a more slanted head and has three or four yellow bands across its body and generally has a darker colour.
